When young American neo-Nazi Ted Philmont invades a Texas synagogue with the intent of murdering as many Jews as he can, he is momentarily stopped by the antics of elderly volunteer Heinrich, who causes a pause just long enough for Ted to realize that he has inadvertently raided a room filled with children. By the time he has regained his bearings the police have been called and Ted suddenly finds himself at the center of a Dog Day Afternoon-style standoff. While the hostage negotiations play out, Heinrich offers the terrified children hope by revealing for the first time since coming to America the story of real-life gay, Jewish hero Fredy Hirsch who brought hope to the children interned at the Auschwitz “Family Camp”, and who ultimately saved his life.
