The Narrows is the tidal strait separating the boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn in New York City.

Despite its framing as a crime drama, the show is really about an American city, and about how we live together. It's about how corruption has an effect on individuals. Whether one is a cop, a drug dealer, a politician, a longshoreman, a judge or a lawyer, all are ultimately compromised and must contend with whatever path to which they have committed. Filled with memorable characters it offers up some slight ray of hope that as the saying goes, a small group of concerned citizens, in this case Fitz and the people he collects along the way, could in fact, try to change the world.
